The battery is a major component to making your rig run. We learned that the hard way when we did a road trip of over 7,500 miles in one month. Preparing the vehicle is key before any large trip but you never know when your battery may give out on you and that is exactly what happened.
Only a quarter of the way through our trip our battery began to give out on us. We had to ask for the battery to be jumped each day from complete strangers while we were on our search for a replacement battery. It is extremely difficult to find a reversed polarity battery in smalls towns in Colorado.

We called around asking for a new battery and drove two hours only to find that when we said Jeep Wrangler the parts department had no idea a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited have reversed polarity batteries. We had to drive another hour to a large automotive chain and pick up the right one. Please don't try to install the wrong battery because it will not work no matter how hard you try to stretch your battery terminals.

We used this brand-new battery for only a year and it gave out on us again. This time, right in front of a Home Depot as we were in the loading dock ready to leave. Great place to break down because they have plenty of tools, but no batteries. We were not prepared, was not sure why the Jeep would not start and didn't have even the simplest of tools. A very nice customer saw us stranded with hood up and asked if they could help, giving us suggestions that it could it be a fuse, starter but we did not think it would be the battery. After talking with the man, we thought to remove the battery and all we needed was a wrench with a 10mm socket with a long extension. The nice man had neither but within minutes he was gone and back and purchased the tools we needed. What an amazing day of troubleshooting on why the Jeep would not start and to see how people work together when people need each other the most.

Ok, ok, lets' get to the story of going extreme. We have been stranded way to many times and we finally decided to go extreme and started researching Odyssey batteries and found that they are twice the overall power and three times the service life of conventional batteries.

These batteries are made with flat plates made of 99% pure lead. Pure lead plates can be made thinner, so that they can fit more of them in the battery. More battery plates means more plate surface area. Tightly packed flat plates in an ODYSSEY Extreme Series battery avoid the 'dead space' between cylinders in a 'six pack' design.

Our rig does not require it, but these batteries are made for many applications even those that might require the battery to be installed on its side. This is possible because the batteries employ dry cell Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) technology to contain acid.
